Wood N Things
In 2019, The Phoenix Project opened it’s first satellite unit. Wood ‘n’ Things is a specialist woodwork unit based in Newport which aims to provide hands on opportunities to learn and develop skills in woodworking. The unit supports individuals with learning disabilities and autism and is fully wheelchair accessible.

Their work has seen them undertake lots of different projects, including making planters, bird tables, benches and baskets, as well as personal projects. We know that for many, working as a team to build something from scratch and then selling it on is extremely rewarding for people and gives them a huge feeling of satisfaction. This work allows them to gain confidence, experience in hands on working and encourages them to express their individual creativity and preferences.
We have access to the public at the front of the building for making sales and taking orders, which offers a new opportunity for experience communicating with customers and handling money. We have been lucky to recruit some fantastic volunteers to work alongside us at Wood ‘n’ Things and their commitment to this project has been invaluable.
